My First Pig

From a worn and wonky single pivot rear sus' frame, Marin Attack Trail, that couIdn't be repaired with new bearings - probably 5th set, I wanted a hard tail to go with my Spech Enduro and Epic.

Pestered Somerset Bike, Weston-super-Mare to have Ragleys, frame arrived before Christmas. Too late for Santa! boo hoo. Nathan and Ian in the shop did a fantastic job on the build using Hope and Nuke Proof components - including Hope X2 brakes, stem, plus strong set Mavic 717 rims on Hope hubs with some parts carried over onto my new orange squash Blue Pig.

After its first outing the only mod needed will be a lay back seat post instead of straight to give my 6'1" frame a bit more reach on 18" Blue Pig.

Just Finished it !

P1010191_copy

Finsihed at 6.15 pm and was out in the ice and snow with it at 7pm ( didn't realise I had the seat clamp back to front 'till it the saddle dropped)

Built up with Pike fork, Hope hubs & Mavic tubeless rim, Avid Elixir R, Easton Monkeylite etc - the plan was to build it burlyish ( I'm not the smoothest of riders ) but have saved weight where I can without spending a mint.

My first impressions are that it rolls fast and is a lot more forgiving than my Alloy hardtail for similar weight, combined with a bolt-through fork it goes exactly where you point it - I can't wait to get on some rooty singletrack with it this weekend.

I will probably fiddle with bar and stem/stack positions a bit but overall I'm  very pleased it looks great and as I managed to get a custom built bike for under £1500 I reckon it's a bargain too !

Nice one Brant

My Pig may be Blue, but I'm not

I've now had 7 good proper rides on the Blue Pig (including one very unplanned 'Over The Bars' excursion) and I absolutely love it.  It's outclimbed everybody else in the snow and loves the rooty drop offs on our trails.  It's built up with an SLX Groupset, Rockshox Revelation 2010 Team forks (Greatrock recommended them, and he was bang on - they suit the Pig really well) and Stan Flow rims on Hope hubs.  My other bikes are now gathering dust!
